Introduction
Pat Reid in conjunction with his senior tutors where appropriate will have ultimate responsibility for the quality and standards of the course to ensure that it meets with the standard as set down by the PHECC and that only the approved assessment documents are being used in assessing each student.
First Aid For Life would work in partnership with the PHECC to ensure relevant existing and new training material is approved.
The following processes apply to all courses outlined below:
• Course training records will be managed and stored securely at the First Aid For Life premises at 15 Cleevaun, Naas, Co. Kildare for the duration of the certification of the following course types:
o Cardiac First Response, Community
o Cardiac First Response plus medications
o Cardiac First Response, Advanced
o Emergency First Response
o Emergency First Response - BTEC
o Emergency First Response - Plus Medical Gas 50% Nitrous Oxide and 50% Oxygen

Copies of all related course documents, including assessment documentation and course evaluations and records of awards to students will be maintained and stored as outlined above.

All documentation is available for inspection and audit by PHECC upon request.

First Aid For Life recognises and accepts that all PHECC course assessments,
both practical skills, OSCEs and MCQs will be set by PHECC.
For all courses outlined below, the following is the remediation process followed by First Aid For Life:
Remediation: If a student does not meet the required standard, the student will be remediated and referred to a different faculty member for re-assessment. In the event where the student is again unsuccessful, that student will be referred to the course director or Pat Reid or both, where a decision will be made in conjunction with the student on the next step of the process to facilitate the student with the best possible outcome.
Cardiac First Response Community.

Students will be assessed using the CFRC skills assessment sheet to demonstrate competence in skills.

Students who pass all elements of the assessment will be certified at PHECC Level Cardiac First Response Community.

Students who are unsuccessful will be remediated as per the Results Approval Policy

Certification is for a period of two years from the date of successful course completion.

To maintain certification the CFRC will be required to re-certify every two years by way of a standard PHECC CFRC course.
Cardiac First Response Plus Medications.

Students will be assessed using the CFRC skills assessment sheet to demonstrate competence in skills.

Students will be assessed using the relevant assessment sheet to demonstrate competence in administering medication as per the appropriate CPG.

Students where required will undertake an MCQ assessment.

Students who pass all elements of the assessment will be certified at PHECC
Level Cardiac First Response Community plus MLO (Medications for Listed Organisations).

Certification is for a period of two years from the date of successful course completion.

To maintain certification the CFRC will be required to re-certify every two years by way of a standard PHECC CFRC course.
Cardiac First Response Advanced.

Students will be assessed using an OSCE on CFRA to demonstrate competence in skills.

Students will undertake an MCQ assessment - consisting of a 25 question Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ) requiring an 80% pass rate.

Students who pass all elements of the assessment will be certified at PHECC Level Cardiac First Response Advanced.

Certification is for a period of two years from the date of successful course completion.

To maintain certification the CFRC will be required to re-certify every two years by way of a standard PHECC CFRA course.
Emergency First Response.

Students will be assessed by way of continuous assessment using the PHECC OSCE sheets to demonstrate competence in skills.

Students will undertake an MCQ assessment - consisting of a 40 question Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ) requiring an 80% pass rate.

Students who pass all elements of the assessment will be certified at PHECC Level Emergency First Response.

Certification is for a period of three years from the date of successful course completion.

To maintain certification the EFR will be required to re-certify every three years by attending a minimum two-day refresher course as well as having an in-date PHECC CFR Advanced certificate.
Emergency First Response - BTEC.

Students will be assessed by way of continuous assessment using the PHECC OSCE sheets to demonstrate competence in skills.

Students will undertake an MCQ assessment - consisting of a 40 question Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ) requiring an 80% pass rate.

Students who pass all elements of the assessment will be certified at PHECC Level Emergency First Response - BTEC.

Certification is for a period of three years from the date of successful course completion.

To maintain certification the EFR-BTEC will be required to re-certify every three years by attending a minimum two-day refresher course as well as having an in- date PHECC CFR Advanced certificate.
Emergency First Response Plus Medical Gas 50% Nitrous Oxide and 50% Oxygen (EFR-Plus).

Students will be assessed by way of continuous assessment using the PHECC OSCE sheets to demonstrate competence in skills.

A 60 minute 40 Question MCQ with a pass mark of 80%.

There is an additional MCQ exam (10 questions), and skill assessment relating to the ‘add-on’ module on Medical Gas 50% Nitrous Oxide & 50% Oxygen.

Practical skills will be assessed by carrying out continuous assessment in accordance with PHECC assessment sheets.
Students who pass all elements of the assessment will be certified at PHECC Level
Emergency First Response Plus Medical Gas 50% Nitrous Oxide and 50% Oxygen.

Certification is for a period of two years from the date of successful course completion.

To maintain certification the EFR - Plus will be required to re-certify every three years by attending a minimum two-day refresher course as well as having an in- date PHECC CFR Advanced certificate.
