Introduction
Pat Reid in conjunction with senior instructors and where appropriate will have ultimate responsibility for the quality and standards of the course to ensure that it meets with the standard as set down by the PHECC. First Aid for Life would work in partnership with the PHECC to ensure relevant existing and new training material is approved.
Authorisation
Overall quality assurance of course development is maintained by Pat Reid ensuring that all course development is informed by subject expertise. Pat’s is highly qualified to perform this quality assurance role. This includes attainment of the following qualifications:
- Registered EFR instructor reg no GG295199.
- EMT registered with Pre-hospital emergency care council (PIN 9690)
- Irish heart foundation BLS instructor (National Faculty)
- Cardiac first responder advanced (practitioner level) instructor
Policy
First Aid for Life’s approach to course development is to provide a portfolio of first aid, emergency responder and other related programmes that benefit participants, reflect staff continuous professional development and best practice and supports our client in meeting their business objectives. Our policy on course development is also designed to ensure a strong impact on:
- Outputs – participant attainment of relevant competences leading to qualification and award;
- Outcomes – the ability of students to apply the skills appropriately and with confidence in an emergency situation.
Procedures
All proposed courses and development of existing courses should meet the following criteria. All courses should be developed:
- On the basis of researched need and a clear demand for the programme;
- In the context of the overall business plan of First Aid for Life;
- According to the principles and competences set out by the awarding body, any relevant
professional, statutory and regulatory body requirements and by developments within
subject areas.
- Under the leadership of the Director and a PHECC facilitator working on behalf of FAFL
or where appropriate Medical Director of First Aid for Life who will act as sponsor and
provide overall leadership and quality assurance;
- To optimise innovation and best practice both in subject matter expertise but also in terms
of engaging training practice and delivery;
- To inspire participants and deliver learning in a way that maximises impact on:
o Outputs – participant attainment of relevant competences leading to qualification and award.
o Outcomes – the ability of students to apply the skills appropriately and with confidence in an emergency situation.
- Through learning from the lessons from previous delivery including feedback from participants, clients, awarding bodies and associates;
- To avoid duplication of provision by, where appropriate, utilising existing course components and modules;
- Seek to promote equality, diversity and access through curricula and learning and teaching methods, recruitment processes and the provision of support services;
- To consider how the programme would be delivered in terms of promoting good practice linked to: health, safety and welfare requirements. These procedures also apply to any courses that would be developed in collaboration with partner organisations.
Statement of best practice for provision of services under the RI.
First Aid For Life, (Pat Reid), will ensure that best practice policies as laid down by the PHECC are strictly adhered to in addition to the following
PHECC CFR ADVANCED.
Student to instructor ratio 6:1.
Only suitably qualified and approved instructors will be used to deliver training.
Student to Manikin & Defibrillator ratio 3:1.
A separate manikin will be provided for those students who may have a minor infection such as cold sores etc.
No student will be accepted on the CFR A Course unless they have completed the CFRC course
All students must pass the CPR/AED skills station. All students must pass the Airway skills station.
All students must pass the MCQ assessment.
All students must be offered remediation if required. All students have a right to appeal results.
All students are aware of the appeals process.
All manikins are clinically clean and in perfect working order.
Lungs and all wear and tear parts will be replaced after every course.
All AEDs are kept in perfect working condition, batteries charged or replaced as necessary and pads replaced as necessary.
PHECC CFR COMMUNITY.
Student to instructor ratio 6:1.
Only suitably qualified and approved instructors will be used to deliver training.
Student to Manikin & AED ratio 3:1.
A separate manikin will be provided for those students who may have a minor infection such as cold sores etc.
All students must pass the CPR/AED skills assessment.
All students must be offered remediation if required.
All students have a right to appeal results.
All students are aware of the appeals process.
All manikins are clinically clean and in perfect working order.
All manikins are cleaned, maintained and retested after every course.
Lungs and all wear and tear parts will be replaced after every course.
All AEDs are kept in perfect working condition, batteries charged or replaced as necessary and pads replaced as necessary.
PHECC EFR/EFR BTEC COURSES.
Student to instructor ratio 6:1.
Only suitably qualified and approved instructors will be used to deliver training.
Each student will be provided with the current approved course book, plus handouts and copies of slide presentations.
Three students per syndicate.
Each syndicate will be supplied with a complete response bag which will contain all the necessary equipment to practice and perform the skills in the training stations and scenarios. All students must have an in date CFR certificate.
Students who do not have a CFR certificate will be provided with a CFR course.
All students will undergo skills assessment in line with PHECC requirements.
All students will undergo the prescribed PHECC EFR MCQ.
All students must be offered remediation if required.
All students have a right to appeal results.
All students are aware of the appeals process.
All equipment is clinically clean and in perfect working order.
PHECC MLO COURSES.
Student to instructor ratio 6:1.
Only suitably qualified and approved instructors will be used to deliver training.
Before undertaking the required MLO course each student will have already attended the CFR community course and undergone all the necessary skills assessments.
Each student will be provided with of course notes, plus handouts and copies of slide presentations.
Each student will be supplied with all the necessary training equipment to practice and perform the skills in the training stations and scenarios.
All students will undergo skills assessment in line with PHECC requirements.
All students will undergo the prescribed PHECC EFR MCQ.
All students must be offered remediation if required.
All students have a right to appeal results.
All students are aware of the appeals process.
All equipment is clinically clean and in perfect working order.
